Assistant Director Clinical Learning
Sam Houston State University
My nursing career began 24 years ago when I graduated with my vocational degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in St. Louis, MO. In 1999 I moved to Spring, Texas to continue my education, and in 2001 graduated from San Jacinto College-South with my Associate's Degree in Nursing. In 2005 I completed my Bachelor of Science from Prairie View A&M University and later in 2009 I graduated with my Master of Science in Nursing with a focus as a Family Nurse Practitioner. My educational journey continued and in 2019, I earned my Doctor of Philosophy in Health Studies from Texas Woman’s University.
I have had the opportunity to experience nursing in various settings and in multiple roles such as a staff nurse, a nurse leader, and an educator. I have over 15 years of service as a Nurse Leader and 13 years as a Nurse Educator and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I entered academia in 2009 at the community college level as an Adjunct Faculty member for Maternal Child Health as a Clinical Instructor. After serving as a Clinical Instructor for a few years, I became a full-time Instructor. This position propelled me into role of teaching, coaching, and mentoring nursing students at the bacculaurate and master's level.
