Elizabeth (Beth) Kingsbury MS, RN, CNOR is a highly motivated and independent nursing professional who is passionate about patient safety. Her credentials encompass over 39 years of perioperative professional nursing practice that has been dominated by caring for patients and families as well as establishing quality improvement initiatives throughout Boston Children's Hospital. She is recognized as a leader and currently is a Level III staff nurse and facilitator of Patient Safety and Quality initiatives in the OR. In 2005, Beth was named the hospital “champion” for Universal Protocol and led a hospital wide implementation. In 2009, she led the development and implementation of the Surgical Safety Checklist for the Operating Room and Procedural areas. In 2020, Beth was a key steak holder in an interdisciplinary committee to revise the Surgical Safety Checklist and improve standardization of its use.
After several years of preparation, Beth launched a perioperative Mentorship program in 2020 as a way to help support and retain new nurses, and improve job satisfaction. The program is expanding to our satellites and measured with a validated pre and post survey tool.
Beth is passionate about patient safety and quality. She joined the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Nursing Quality Improvement Science committee in 2022 and together they have designed and built a perioperative dashboard.
She has served on and led numerous committees and is a sought after and valued team contributor. These patient safety initiatives have led to multiple publications for AORN and presentations both locally and nationally. Several of Beth’s initiatives have been recognized and honored including a safety video, posters and an AORN writer’s award.
