Barbara L. DiTullio, DNP, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC is the Senior Clinical Operations Liaison at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Barbara has served as a Perioperative Nurse Leader in several Boston academic teaching institutions. She has worked with adult and pediatric patient populations in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, overseeing operations, facilitating change through project improvement, and promoting excellence in nursing practice. Barbara has been a leader in developing and expanding peer support programs to provide emotional first aid to caregivers involved in challenging patient care situations. Her most rewarding work has been training and supporting growth for new graduate nurses in the OR and professional development of nurses into leadership roles. Barbara has presented locally and nationally on topics including communication, pressure injuries in the perioperative setting, peer support, new graduate nurse programs, process improvement, job safety for perioperative staff, and the impact of a mass casualty event during The Boston Marathon. Barbara has been a contributor to the AORN Journal and served AORN MA Chapter 1 as Board member, Chair of the Scholarship Committee, and presently as Treasurer. More recently, Barbara has published and presented the results of her doctoral work in the area of human factors and the role distractions play in suture needle injuries and unexpected outcomes for caregivers and patients in the operating room.
