Patricia J Coates, MSN/Ed, RN, FNP-C, CNOR
I earned my post masters Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from Northern Arizona University (NAU). My certification is through AANP with my FNP-C, and currently I am transitioning into a FNP role. I have a masters of science in nursing with specialization in health care education from University of Phoenix (UOP). My education provided me with multiple courses on creating objectives, competency assessment and creation of teaching/learning materials for adult learners. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UOP, and my Associate of Science in Nursing from Pennsylvania State University.
I have worked in a variety of roles as a Perioperative Director, Operating Room Nurse Manager, Perioperative nurse educator and clinical nurse educator over the last 18 years. In all these positions I created and taught education modules, utilized skills and tools that were geared towards perioperative nurses and adult learners. I was certified to teach Periop 101 in 2005 and have been in a moderator of Periop 101 multiple times in my various roles.
I have worked the past 5 years in the Emergency Department, a necessary change to complete my course work. I have served as the Arizona State Coordinator for legislative since 2016 and was the last President for Arizona State Council of PeriOperative Nurses. I have been actively involved in legislation since attending American Nurse Advocacy Institute (ANAI) in 2015. I currently serve as a Board Member, Past President of the Grand Canyon Chapter of AORN. I am proud to say that I have done a great deal in my 23 years of nursing, and so thrilled to be part of the committee that passed our Arizona Smoke Evacuation Bill in April of 2022.
