Laurie is tenacious about seeking information and collecting data. Why? Because proof is powerful and increased knowledge leads to improved outcomes.
As a respiratory care practitioner early her career, Laurie quickly learned the value of the built environment and its direct influence on patient care. Later, she applied this front-line experience when she shifted professions to healthcare facility planning and interior design.
Now, as Director of Healthcare Design Research, Laurie works with practitioners, patients, and third-party consultants to evaluate evidence and measure the impact of clinical environments. This research offers insights into applying new design approaches in facility design and construction, to achieve greater efficiency in all healthcare service lines.
Laurie serves as a member of the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Health Guidelines Revision Committee and is a founding member of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID) in addition to the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD). Her publications, interviews, and chapters are featured in textbooks, peer reviewed journals and trade articles.
