Joanne Muyco, MSN, RN, CNOR, is a manager in the Walter Tower CV OR at Houston Methodist Hospital and currently a DNP student in the Nurse Executive track at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Cizik School of Nursing. As the manager of the CVOR, she oversees 70 employees consisting of nurses, surgical techs, and nursing assistants. She oversees cardiac, thoracic, hybrid/vascular, and transplant service lines and is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of 14 OR suites. She works collaboratively with perioperative departments to ensure the highest quality of care for their surgical patients. As the clinical educator, she was responsible for staffing, planning, and implementing orientation and educational opportunities for the new graduate nurses, the nursing staff in the CVOR, and for perioperative services overall. Joanne has given presentations on Perioperative Care After Death, Perioperative Pressure Injury Prevention, Magnet in the OR, and other general presentations on scrubbing and circulating cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures.
