Clinical Assistant Professor in Nursing
Sam Houston State University
I started my nursing career at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Scott and White Nursing Program) in Belton, Texas, and obtained my bachelor’s degree in nursing. Upon graduation, I went to the Operating Room and did my internship. I continued in surgery and obtained leadership roles as a charge and then eventually led to a director position at various hospitals. I left management to move closer to home and started working at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and specializing in orthopedic spine. I went to work for Dr. Craig Callewart and was an RNFA in orthopedic spine. During this time, I received my certification as a CRNFA. I started working on my Master of Nursing Education which I completed in 2012. I then started looking at teaching in nursing school positions. I took a position in an associate's degree program and worked for three years prior to transitioning to a BSN program at Sam Houston State University where I am currently.
I am a Clinical Assistant Professor and teach across several levels. I teach in the prelicensure program in Adult Health I and Community Nursing. I am also the RN to BSN program coordinator and teach in the online program. I have been able to be a part of the pilot program for Perioperative Nursing and enjoy getting to share my love for the OR with my students.
