May Saulan DNP MSN MPA AOCNS CNOR has been an OR nurse for the last 30 years. She has held several positions as Clinical Nurse, Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and now as a Director in the OR. She devoted her career to improving safety in the Operating Room. She was involved in numerous process improvement projects and devoted her career to improving the OR nurses' clinical practice and patient surgical outcomes. She published her work on preventing retained surgical items, preparing for a robotic emergency, and early identification of Compartment Syndrome in several peer-reviewed journals. She also presented 11 of her work in a podium presentation internationally at the European OR Nurses Association (EORNA) and nationally at the AORN conferences, NACNS Conference, and AORN NYC chapter. She presented 12 posters at different conferences international and national conferences. She has been a peer reviewer of the AORN Journal since 2017. In 2017, she received the distinguished Nurse Excellence Award in Education from MSK Cancer Center.
May Saulan has been an active member of the AORN and held different positions. She served as the President of the AORN NYC chapter from 2017-2018, Board of Directors from 2015-2016, Secretary from 2016-2017, and Treasurer from 2019 to the present. She had served as a delegate with voting rights at the AORN's global assembly. She serves her profession and community by organizing yearly volunteer activities to help communities needing medical supplies thru AFYA and volunteers of America and Jersey Cares.
