Ann Marie started her career in the HUP OR in 1987 and is currently the Associate Clinical Director Perioperative Quality, Safety and Education at the Hospital of the University of PA. Her Perioperative Nursing practice includes several leadership roles within Perioperative services in same day surgery and endoscopy, including pre and post procedure recovery. In 2010 she transitioned to a newly developed role, Nurse Manager Periop Quality and Safety. Her current role includes oversight of Perioperative Nursing Education, including the Gateway to Nursing program, as well as ongoing education and professional development of the perioperative nursing team. In 2018 her scope expanded to provide leadership to quality and safety initiatives in other procedure areas at the hospital and in 2020, she completed Six Sigma training and received Green Belt Certification from the American Society of Quality. Ann Marie serves as the Perioperative liaison to departments throughout the hospital and ambulatory practices, working collaboratively with both colleagues in Perioperative Services and interdepartmentally identifying opportunities for improvement, standardizing practice across procedure areas, and spearheading patient safety and quality initiatives. She co-chairs the Perioperative Quality Committee and provides oversight for the integration of quality and safety initiatives into perioperative education. She also serves as column coordinator for the AORN Safety First column.
