Dr. Karen Cochran is a nurse scintist who has been a nurse for 27 years. Her clinical experience includes positions of scrub and circulating nurse in the OR, as well as manager and educator for the surgical services department, staff nurse in PACU, and providing sedation for minimally invasive procedures. Karen is certified as a perioperative nurse (CNOR) and has earned a certificate of mastery in surgical services education. She has worked at Western Carolina University as a HRSA grant program director which included oversight of more than 8 million dollars of federal funding and also serves as faculty for the school of nursing. Dr. Cochran was honored with the distinguished faculty award in 2017. She earned her master’s degree in nursing education from Gardner-Webb University and her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Dr. Cochran was awarded the Doctoral School of Nursing Alumni Award in 2021 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and more recently the Edith Anderson Leadership Education Grant from Sigma.
