Barbara is a nurse practitioner and RNFA she currently serves as the lead nurse practitioner for the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical group specializing in urogynecology and gynecology. She has served in a variety of leadership positions over her career and continues to strive for safe patient care. She has served both at the national level with AORN and at the local level. She has served on several committees including the Guidelines advisory board, the RNFA futures task force, The AORN Awards committee and she currently serves on the Clinical Nurse Practice Committee. She has also served the local level as a chapter president and in other various positions for AORN of Baltimore.

She is passionate about perioperative patient care and has done several presentations at both the national and local level on a variety of topics including RSI, Communication, Trends for the APN, and the value of recognition. She has been awards the Vitteck Award for Academic Excellence, the AORN award for Excellence In Clinical Practice, and been recognized in 2021 and 2022 for outstanding practice in Women's health and as a advance practice nurse.
