NaKeisha “Nikki” D. Washington, MSN, MBA, RN, CNOR, CSSM, is a Director of Surgical Services at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, CA, where she is responsible for the financial sustainability of Surgical Services. Her business acumen allows her to strategize methods to attract profitable variables advantageous to her organization. Previously, Nikki was a former travel nurse with Whitman Partners and an administrator of Periop 101 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, CA. In addition to being an administrator and leading Periop 101, Nikki created and implemented the surgical technologist externship program. She continued to utilize her perioperative leadership expertise to create a Perioperative Council to align behavioral practices for the operating rooms and procedural areas. Before redirecting her passion to the operating room, Nikki was a staff nurse traveler for Phoenix Medstaff, specializing in Interventional Radiology/Neuro/Vascular/Cardiac Catheterization. Nikki is the former Director of Nursing at the DeBakey Heart & Vascular Cath Lab & Pacemaker Clinic in Houston, Texas, where she was instrumental in bridging the gap between the operating room and procedure areas. She was instrumental in recouping 4.5 million dollars in lost revenue during her tutelage. Nikki has been a member of AORN of Greater Houston since 2004, is a member of the Texas Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, and is a lifetime member of AORN National. Nikki is the treasurer of AORN of Greater Houston and finance chair, a CCI item writer, AORN National Mentor, and a Marquis Who’s Who in America listee. She has served as AORN Greater Houston's president/president-elect, AORN National Nominating Committee member, Houston Community College System Surgical Technology Advisory Board member, CCI CNOR Champion, CNOR Prep Course Instructor, and several professional council chairs/co-chairs. Before her leadership role, Nikki was an RN IV Clinical Educator at Houston Methodist Outpatient Center, where she was instrumental in bridging professional gaps in transitioning from Novice to Expert Nurse. As a result, Nikki created a workshop for OR nurse residents, assisting them with tools for a successful transition from novice to expert. Nikki has presented at local and national professional conferences focusing on nursing incivility, embracing the leader in you, and taking ownership and accountability in nursing collaboration. Nikki was inducted into the Phi Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing for her dedication to leadership and into the National Society of Leaders and Success honor society at Aspen University, where she is a Doctor of Nursing Practice student. In her community, Nikki is a member of Changed Ministries Community Outreach for Feeding the Homeless and a mentor for Teen Mothers. She has also presented the effects of diabetes awareness in the community as a part of her community involvement. Nikki is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, where she is the former Chair of the Emergency Readiness Team. She has presented on the “Basics of CPR,” “Home Fire Safety,” and “Heart Health and its Effect on Mental Health.”
