Dr. Hicks is the Associate Dean for Research and Administration at the College of Graduate Nursing. Dr. Hicks is an active research in perioperative safety and the scholarship of scholarship and his works are frequently cited by others. Dr. Hicks currently serves AORN as the Chair of the AORN Research Committee. In this role, Dr. Hicks works to identify relevant research topics that can influence the AORN Perioperative Guidelines. Previously, Dr. Hicks served as Chair of the AORN Perioperative Guidelines Expert Panel.

Currently, Dr. Hicks manages nearly $6 Million in federal grants to advance the mental health of the students and the health care workforce.
