Maria has been a nurse since graduating Old Dominion University School of Nursing in 1989. The first 25 years of her career were dedicated to maternal child nursing including NICU and high risk obstetrics. She has always held a strong interest in OR nursing. She has provided education to LPN students as as adjunct instructor of Obstetrics, Pediatrics and PeriOperative Nursing. In 2018 She joind the team at Children's Hospital of the KIng's Daughters as an OR nurse. In that first year she became an active participant in the unit based Shared Govedrnance council as the scribe.She quickly received recognition as and CN4 level nurse in 2020 and has maintained that same distinction.She, along with her co-presenter, Tiffany Minor initiated a unit based Shared Governance council for their ambulatory surgery center. They currently serve as chair and co-chair of that committee as well as contributors to the hospital Staff Engagement Committee and Clinical Advancement Program, both serving as mentors.
